Title:

A critical reflection on how [chosen topic or theme] can be used to facilitate high quality teaching and learning in educational settings.

Criteria

In addressing the title, you should refer to the Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs).

Formative Assessment

The formative assessment for this module consists of two parts:

1.       Research proposal (1000 words)

2.       Completed ethics form

You will provide a brief overview of your area explaining how you will gather your evidence in your setting, including taking account of any ethical considerations. You will have templates which will guide you in completing this.

Your formative assessment will be sent to your tutor by the end of week 8 (12th March 2026)

In week 10 or 11 you will receive feedback on how appropriate your data gathering methods are and the extent to which you have considered ethical issues. Once your tutor is satisfied that your data gathering is appropriate and ethical, you can then carry out the research, which will take place any time from week 11 onwards.

The templates for your formative assessment can be found in Week 8 of the learning materials. Details of how to submit your formative assessment can be found in the assessment folder.

All summative written coursework will also include an assessment of proficiency in the English language. This means that up to 5% of marks for all written coursework for all provision is assigned to the assessment of technical proficiency in the English language, using the following level-specific threshold statements as the basis for the allocation of marks:

Spelling, grammar, punctuation and vocabulary meet the minimum standard for this study level of accuracy and clarity. Written expression has very few errors in standard UK English spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Vocabulary choice shows an accurate understanding of the meaning of a wide range of specialist terms in the context of the subject. The specialist terms used may include those where the meaning is still being developed, or where the meaning is changing; or where the meaning is not agreed by all subject experts. There is also a broad and varied general vocabulary chosen so that nuances of meaning can be expressed concisely and to reflect the most current thinking in the subject area. Sentences are grammatically correct and express arguments and ideas through using both short, simple sentences and longer, compound sentences that allow the writer to bring facts or ideas together in a logical way. Expression is appropriate to the form of the assessment (for example, the use of bullet points and captions instead of sentences).

  • meets the Tech Prof threshold criterion wholly (gain 5 points)
  • meets the Tech Prof threshold criterion partly (3 points)
  • does not meet the Tech Prof threshold criterion (0 points)

Marks and feedback will be released to you after 20 working days of your submission which will be available for you to access via Turnitin (this is the same location where you submit your work).

PGCE7002 Written Assessments:

The upper word limit specified for this assessment may be exceeded by up to 10% without penalty. There is no lower limit, but you should consider how you are taking advantage of the wordcount to demonstrate all of the learning outcomes. Where the word count exceeds 10%, the assessment will be marked, and the following penalties will be applied.

  • 0% – 10% No penalty
  • 11%- 30% 10 marks will be deducted, or the pass mark awarded (whichever is the higher)
